Westgate Oxford has brought one of the world’s most recognisable paintings to life as part of a nationwide collaboration with the National Gallery and Global Street Art.
A spectacular large-scale mural inspired by Vincent van Gogh’s iconic Sunflowers has transformed the centre, bringing art out of the gallery and into the heart of the community. The project forms part of Murals reMastered, a new initiative transforming some of the world’s greatest paintings into monumental murals in streets, neighbourhoods and unexpected public spaces across the UK – making art more accessible for everyone to enjoy.
Paying homage to Oxford’s botanical history as home to the oldest botanic garden in the UK, Murals reMastered builds on the National Gallery’s long-standing commitment to sharing its collection nationally, with the Sunflowers mural install at Westgate Oxford being the first within the programme to be unveiled outside of London. The project also aligns with Global Street Art’s mission to ‘Live in Painted Cities’, bringing public artworks to communities across the country.
Discover the mural on the corner of Castle Street and Church Lane and enjoy the incredible artistry right here in Oxford.
