Here at Westgate we'd love to share with you all of the work that we have been up to as part of our corporate responsibility promise; click here to find out more.
We currently work with a local and national charity so please read below for more information.
Aspire
Westgate are working on a programme in liaison with Oxford City Council and a group called Aspire with a remit to provide work experience opportunities to the exhomeless, those with past drug addictions or those who’ve been in trouble with the courts.
This involves part time work experience organised via our soft service contractor Europa and involves supervised work at the mall and in other parts of the centre. It is hoped to roll this out to the tenants in 2012. We were presented with an award given by the Mayor of Oxford for our efforts in the Aspire project. Westgate also received a visit from the Lord Mayor of Oxford regarding our work with Aspire, which has resulted in one of our volunteers receiving a job offer from another company following work experience carried out at our centre.
MS Society
Westgate would like to help the MS Society to raise vital awareness of multiple sclerosis before their 60th anniversary in 2013. 100,000 people have been diagnosed with MS in the UK and it affects around 600,000 people including family, friends and carers. The MS Society helps people with MS to better understand and manage their condition and assists them through the difficult times. There are 300 branches of the MS Society across the UK that people can turn to for advice and our fundraising will go toward providing local support as well as vital research into MS.
There is real hope that a cure for MS will be found in our lifetime and potential new MS treatments will be developed in the next 10-15 years – Westgate will be a part of making this happen.
